Totally Runner: "Why Life is Better After a Good Run"

Meet Totally Runner Kim
What She Loves About Running

Running is my “me” time. It is a time for me to check out of the daily grind and reset. Despite how frantic, disorganized, and stressful my day may seem, running gives me a sense of clarity and peace. Perhaps it is the increased blood flow to my brain that clears out the clutter. Whatever it is, life is certainly better after a good run.

Stress relief is not the only thing I love about running. How many other sports can you do and continue to improve even as you age? I love the fact that I am a better runner in my 40’s than I was in my 20’s. I am smarter, faster, and stronger. It is so much fun to run now and see improvement in my time. Don’t get me wrong, placing in age groups is always a thrill, but achieving new PRs with each race is the greatest reward.

On what has made the biggest difference in her running

Having running partners has made all the difference in the world. I was apprehensive at first to run with others “What if I can’t keep up? What if we don’t get along?” All of my fears were unfounded though.

I have found some of my closest friends through running. We push each other and keep each other accountable. It’s hard to hit the snooze button on Saturday morning when you know others are counting on you to join them for a long run.

I run with people who are faster or have more endurance so that I can continue to push myself to improve. Not to mention we solve all of the world’s problems while we run!

We divulge all sorts of secrets. We know that once the run is over and the Garmin has been stopped that everything we said, whether funny, ridiculous, or serious will remain on the run. “What’s said on the run, stays on the run!”

Not only am I better runner because of the people I run with, I am a better person.
